It also provides menus for the diet. My cardiologist told me I inherited this from my parents. The purpose of this book is to improve a persons' heart health by changing their blood chemistry. In phase two I will gradually reintroduce certain healthy carbs.

My cholesterol is over 200 even when I am on medication. I recommend this diet book to anyone with high cholesterol or is hypoglycemic. It is broken into three phases. The recipes are very good and the snacks keep me from feeling too hungry. I am learning so much from South Beach Diet that I believe will help lower my cholesterol.

The first two weeks I will leave off carbs. The book recommends exercise but it is not necessary. The second goal is weight loss, because when that occurs it's a sign that blood chemistry is also coming under control. Phase three will introduce me to even more carbs and will be the diet I will remain on. Such as, bread with oil or even a little butter is better for my diet than bread alone because the oil will slow down the absorption of starches and contribute to my feeling of fullness.

This book provides a daily meal plan- breakfast, midmorning snack, lunch, midafternoon snack, dinner, dessert. I am still in the first two week stage which cuts off all carbs. I have encouraged my family to try this diet.

Got a great deal on the book and quick shipping but was a little offset when reading due to the complicated and somewhat expensive meals. Some meals just aren't for me due to the ingredients. Like I said in my title "be wise before you buy".
